Preschool

Head Start understands that children learn through experience and strive to nurture the whole child in our preschool programming. In addition to math, reading, science, social studies, and art skills, Head Start students develop skills in cooperation, problem solving, and personal responsibility. The Creative Curriculum® System for Preschool, which forms the basis for our fully integrated preschool program, is a content-rich, developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports active learning and promotes children’s progress in all developmental areas. The objectives for development and learning are fully aligned with the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework, as well as early learning standards for every state. In order to ensure the safety and individualized attention of all children, we employ two paid staff with early childhood education backgrounds in each of our half-day and full-day classrooms.

Half-Day Option

Our half-day preschool program serves children who are 3- and 4-years old. Morning and afternoon sessions last three-and-a-half hours and run Monday through Thursday (specific class times vary by site). Bus transportation is available to and from most locations. In addition to developmentally appropriate learning opportunities, students in our half-day programs receive a nutritious meal and a snack each day.

Full-Day Option

Our full-day preschool program serves children who are 4-years old.* Full-day sessions last seven hours and run Monday through Thursday (specific class times vary by site). Bus transportation is available to and from most locations. In addition to developmentally appropriate learning opportunities, students in our full-day programs receive two nutritious meals and a snack each day, and have a quiet time for resting after lunch.
*Our North Kent site serves 3-year-olds in the full-day program.
